CHALLENGE: Create an engaging and relatable marketing campaign with graphics and promotional materials to represent what “Light Your Path” means to the fraternity.

OVERVIEW

What does “Light Your Path” mean?

For Alpha Kappa Psi's Nu Xi Chapter, Light Your Path comes from the passion and drive that each person has to write their own future, against all odds. It means finding a home full of friends, family, and peers that drive you, push you, and encourage you to pursue the greatest of dreams with unconditional support.

"Alpha Kappa Psi is a co-ed, pre-professional business fraternity open to all majors. Located in the sunny town of La Jolla, the Nu Xi Chapter brings the values of Alpha Kappa Psi to the UC San Diego campus. Our brothers inspire and help each other pursue our greatest dreams. We congratulate each other on our victories, but more importantly, we are there for each other through our defeats. More than an organization, we build each other up as a family."

This fall recruitment, we hope to be the home of UC San Diego students venturing on to campus for the very first time since the pandemic. We hope to be the support as we learn and get to know the dreams and pursuits of the students on our campus and add a new class of amazing, hardworking, and passionate people into our family.

OBJECTIVE

After this past year and a half of living in isolation, confusion, and anxiety, I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to help make our Rush Chairs' vision come to life for all to see!

In my opinion, Light Your Path means paving the way for yourself to help you get closer to what you need, closer to your goals. In my case, it meant finding my way back to a community of people who have supported me from day one. An amazing thing that I’ve seen in AKPsi, is the unconditional support that everyone has for each other. No matter what you do, no matter what goals you are trying to achieve, these brothers will support you, push you, and cheer for you when you pass that finish line!

INSPIRATION & DIRECTION

So with these experiences in mind, I began adding elements like that to our rush flyer. I really wanted to emphasize bright colors, as a light at the end of this tunnel, as we move back in person and begin this new chapter of our story.

A major feature I made sure to represent was that everyone's path is different, and we all start at different points in our journey. However, with these decisions and actions,  we all ended up in this community, UC San Diego, and this fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. In AKPsi, we are made up with so many different people with diverse backgrounds and so many amazing goals and achievements. And while everyone has their own goals in mind, they are always there when you need them. No matter where I go, I know that my brothers will always have my back and support me as I light my path.

SOCIAL MEDIA

While marketing our events to the student body at UC San Diego (over 40,000 undergraduate students) we utilized both in person and virtual marketing tactics. When planning with the Rush Coordinators for our Fall 2021 rush, our goal was to show our audience what "Light Your Path" meant to us.

Our Instagram feed became a main point of showcasing our brotherhood and identity to the student body. By creating cohesive, on-brand content that aligned with our ideals and personality, we were able to connect with students.

✦ Meet Brother Kyle Yun!

📌 Kyle is a third year transfer public health major concentrating in health management and policy - in his spare time he enjoys playing soccer, hiking/camping, cooking, learning kpop dances, and looking at past nights box scores

💡 What is the best piece of advice someone has given you?

"Do what excites."

I think about this piece of advice everyday of my life. You only have one life, so why not make it count? Chase that next adventure, go out of your comfort zone, say hi to that stranger, and simply, do what excites.

💡 What does AKPsi mean to you?

I love the immediate sense of brotherhood and camaraderie you feel with everyone in this org. Everyone pushes each other to reach their highest potential and it makes me so happy to be surrounded by such encouraging and amazing people.

To me AKPSI means family. As a transfer student I was afraid of being in such a new environment, but the people here have made my transition so smooth and welcoming and I'm so excited to start this school year.

Thank you Kyle for your advice! He believes that each and every individual has an amazing story to tell or has something unique to offer, so he can’t wait to meet you all at rush 🔥
